Often my character employ a boar spear, not because of its particular effectiveness, but rather because it sounds really cool to say. Its much like broad sword compared to long sword. One just sounds more violent.
But the boar spear has a particular use and its design is specific. It is shorter than most spears, with a thick haft and a broader head. It is designed to hunt boars, and as those beasts can be extremely ferocious, the spear comes with a set of lugs, or wings, at the base of the blade. The blade itself is broad, about 3 inches wide. This prevents the boar from riding up the shaft of the spear after its been stabbed. It works just as well for orcs, or goblins, or even zombies.
Which means of course, that the boar spear is a great weapon for the apocalypse. As was pointed out a few weeks ago, my desire to keep a bearded axe in the trunk of the car in case of a zombie apocalypse might not be a good idea as the police, if they pull you over before the apocalypse, might not approve. A crowbar was suggested in stead.
But with the boar spear I can just say I was hunting.
Perhaps put a rubber hand-grip on the haft in order to stop the electrical charge in case the apocalypse is a machine driven one.
