The Shelves of Mist

The Struggle is the Reward

The road to adventure began long ago. Now it shows. Upon the battered mail, and weary look it shows. But it matters not, for the struggle is the reward!

Upon a Cold Morning

Frost clings to the trees, giving them a bluish hue. The clouds hang low in the air, yielding to their own weight of promised snow. But the castle is before you. Quiet. Seemingly empty. A shelter if nothing else...

Ineffable Creatures

The katamak are ineffable creatures that were born of errant thoughts of Ea-Raena. They dwell in the deeps of the Gray Waste, listless and without purpose. They appear as young fey, innocent and filled with wonder. But they long for more. When they spy a soul, cursed to wander alone, they snare them in a loving embrace. Taking some aspect of that soul's life they recreate it...sitting and talking in two chairs before a fireplace, cultivating a rose in a garden beneath a window, but the creation is never complete, the fireplace has no room, the garden window no house. But the katamak do not understand that it is incomplete and repeat it time and time again. The lost soul is ensnared, unknowingly reliving some shadow of its life. In the end this is salvation of sorts, for otherwise Gehenna would unmake the soul so that it would be as if it never was. ~ from A Guide to the Planes

A Malaise of Fog

A malaise of fog dampens your senses. It casts the world in shades of blue and gray, muffling sound as it clings to your cloaks, armor and packs. You know the beast is before you . . .

These are the Roads of Adventure...

From the Pits

It crawls forth from the deep recesses of the pits below. An abomination. A cretinous monstrosity formed of the suffering of the damned, doomed to Aufstrag.  It hangs there. Motionless. Watching you through the hollow white globes of eyes that bear no intelligence or purpose of intent....

Reflections

The road is oft confusing and offers up a mirage of what is real and what is not. But these are, are they not, our Roads of Adventure

Sluggish Water

The sluggish water stretches out through the forest's damp floor, pulling you deeper into the blue-green mist. The dead fall of autumn is around you, echoing the dank silence that saturates your many senses. The World of Aihrde

A Wizard's Nest

High walls and higher towers marked the palatial fortress. There wizards dwelt, or so it has always been said, pondering the arcane thaumaturgy that is their calling.

Of the Rune Maids

There, upon the edges of the world the Rune Maids lingered, watching and lusting for the light of the sun and the feel of rain. They built homes for themselves, towers and castles of wondrous work in the darkness. ~ Of the Rune Maids. The World of Aihrde.

The Truth of It

Aye. There is sorcery. There are shadows to cloak your padded feet. Snares to set and other foolish conjurings. But there is nothing like armor and cold steel. It will not fail you from desire, nor falter from fatigue. It is yours to command and your enemies to fear.

Upon Iron Steeds

And so they rode to war, and none could withstand them, for they were bold and without fear. And this infected their mighty steeds so that those beasts bore them through fire and blood with the joy of a hunting hound. And all fell away from them and the field was theirs. World of Aihrde

The Basin

There is no roof to the structure, nor windows, all is open to the elements. Grass grows where the floor once stood, contrasting with the dour gray of walls and arches. But there it stands, the basin, much as she said it would. It rests upon unsettled flagstones, filled with a dark, still water.

Elisa Teague

I would like to take a moment and give a shout out to a good friend of the Trolls, Elisa Teague. I had the pleasure of meeting Elisa several years ago at Gencon. Aldo Ghiozzi, formally of Impressions now of Flat River Group, introduced us. For such an accomplished game designer she was insanely approachable, and we struck up a rather hilarious conversation. Since then we’ve crossed paths at a number of conventions and we’ve been lucky enough to have Elisa lend her talents to both The Lost City of Gaxmoor and The NPC Almanac. With a little luck this will only be the beginning of collaborative work between TLG and Elisa.

For those who may not know Elisa, she is best known as being a lead designer on Betrayal at House on the Hill: Widow's Walk, Talisman: Kingdom Hearts Edition, the Apocrypha Adventure Card Game, and her Geek Out! line of games, including the just released Disney Edition, not to forget her RPG work for D&D, which includes Return to the Ghost Tower of Inverness and Wardlings, a 5e compatible campaign setting! She has some 100 titles to her name.

Needless to say, it’s been a rough couple of months for just about everywhere, but Elisa has been forced to carry more than the rest of us. In the middle of all this pandemic madness, her husband of many years passed away quite suddenly, leaving her and her two young children to find a new path. She did not have time to catch her breath before she was diagnosed with a tumor that had to be removed. This took several surgeries and put her and her family under more stress than most. She has handled all this with amazing resilience and continues to do so.

In order to help her manage this terrible cascade of events, a friend of hers set up a GoFundMe campaign. The campaign is to help her manage funeral costs and get her finances in a manageable shape. If you have a moment and can spare a little, please consider visiting the campaign and contributing.

Elisa is an amazing game designer and truly we would like to see her, pen to paper, and focused on the fun we all so very much enjoy.

Joe and Elisa Teague.
