Mining Asteroids

This really is something out of an old science fiction story. Companies have begun the first steps toward mining asteroids. A satellite deploys this July from the ISS and begins experimenting with equipment that will be necessary to hop over to the asteroid belt and begin harvesting its wealth.

Its a really cool concept if you take a step back and think about it. We are actually leaving the planet and heading into the broader solar system. But we aren't just sending out information gathering ships, but now beginning the first steps toward migration.
