This has to be one of the most challenging fields of study. You find artifacts and you have to use both common sense, science and imagination to determine the nature of some ancient artifact. From bones to cooking tools, from toys to clothes, from weapons to rocks, it all has some meaning...or did to someone long ago...and its the arches job to figure it out.

Here is an ancient Thracian toy. The small stork head bobbles around in the bronze piece. At least they assume its a toy, but who really knows. Its several thousand years old.

This piece was found with some bodies in Siberia and dates some 40,000 year old. It is the oldest piece of stone jewelry ever found. Or is it?

Lots of guessing, lots of imagination, lots of science, all to figure out what these knuckleheads were doing...
