I think Castles & Crusades needs more monsters with poor eyesight, sort of like the ancient sea scorpions, or pterygotids! Once thought top predators, these crazy looking beasts, have proven to be less than they were believed to be.
Studies of the creature have determined that their claws were not as strong as originally thought and that they could not rip open the armored cases of some fish. Also their eyes were not very good as studies of they lenses under an electron microscope have found.
More than likely they carped along the body, eating the dead flesh of sunken whales, sharks or what have you. There are whole echo systems built around that.
