This is sort of NASA's plan. They have concocted the idea to lasso an asteroid and bring it to us. Too many near misses have made them skeptical that we will ever get hit to test the theory of  KY event (dinosaur extinction), so they are bring one to us.

Or rather, to the moon. It is an ambitious plan to snatch an asteroid and bring it to the moon so that the moon can take it in its loving embrace, locked as it were, in the gravitational pull of our little sister.  Read more.

 

This mission is called the asterior initiative and its one ambitious attempt to master a part of the cosmos. Really not clear on whether this is a good idea or not, but hey, who doesn't like dodge ball!
