Kerma

The State of Kerma thrived around 2500-1500 BC. Centered on the upper Nile in what is today the Sudan, but ancients called Numedia, the state was centralized in and around the large city of Kerma. We are only beginning to delve into the archeological evidence and have sense learned the state comprises hosts of small villages and farmsteads sprinkled along the Nile's many tributaries.

We know little of the burial customer, dress, or how they waged war. We do know they possessed a powerful central government as tribute seems to have been brought in (and stored in the royal tombs) from far and wide.

The state warred with Egypt for centuries until it finally collapsed and was conquered. The Kingdom of Kush arose from its ashes, but it resembled Egypt as much as it did Kerma.
