LucasArts Down for the Count

If you haven't heard already Disney shut down LucasArts last week, or at least announced its demise and proceeded to lay off staff. This kills a number or projects but most notable the 1313 game system that starred everyone's favorite . . . but mine, I'm a Obi Wan fan . . . character Boba Fett.

LucasArts has created a number of very memorable Star Wars games for various Star Wars Darkforces to Knights of the Old Republic. They have been struggling with 1313 for some time, but the shut down puts that on almost permanent hold. Disney has announced that they will license out various Star Wars franchises to other companies for development of Video Games.

The bad of this is that the game market will be minus some Star Wars games for awhile. The good of this you likely to get a company able to lift a little weight jumping at the chance to get that license.

And of course this means Disney will focus more on the movies and tv shows than on the game, which may be good in the end . . . depending on how good they make their movies!
