Voyager 1 has left the Solar System and moved into the Darkling Skies. It has left the Solar Bubble and entered inter-stellar space. The first spacecraft to do so. That puts her at about 12 billion miles (19 billion mms) from the Sun. For about a year she's been passing through a giant wave of ionized gases, but has left that behind and is now in between stars.
What we learn next is how the winds that buffet our heliosphere will buffet the dedicated spacecraft. What lies beyond.
Her next landmark will be to break that region of space that the Sun itself influences.
Voyager 2 is a bit behind, at only 9 billion miles out.
