From Small Beginnings

The world's smallest volcano made her debut recently, just off runway 9 at Rome's major airport. The volcano is only a few meters (yards) wide and was at first believed to be the result of rotting vegetable matter . . . which makes one wonder what the Italians are burying over there.

Turns out the whole region is part of a network of geologic hotspots that have popped from time to time. For the most part doing little damage, but on occasion, read Pompeii into that sentence. doing a great deal of damage.

The Daily Mail.
