The bardiche is a type of pole arm, though shorter than most, ranging about 5 feet in length, though often a bit shorter. The bardiche axe head ranged about 2 feet in length, making it almost half the length of the pole arm itself. Its weight and balance allowed its use i close quarters, whether in confined spaces or in the press caused by mass units being crushed together. It was not used against mount forces as it like the length to ground the weapon.

I always loved the bardiche, a sort of "sawed off halberd" if you will. Almost as awesome as the Bohemian Ear Spoon.
Is it pronounced "bard-ish"?
I've always pronounced it bard ITCH. But interestingly I can't find it in any of my dictionaries!
This is a job for Tim!
According to my sources, the IPA (or International Phonetic Alphabet) says it is proununced /bɑrˈdiːʃ/ which, when pronounced out, would be something akin to "bardeesh". Then again, you could simply say pole axe. Or big ol' whacking thingy!
the same source, wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bardiche says it can be spelled berdiche. And somewhere I came across the word "balta" meaning the same things as bardiche and being Cyrillic in nature. But I am not sure where I saw that.
