Warner Brothers has acquired the rights to the Dungeons and Dragons franchise. The writer of Wrath of the Titans has been hacked to polish up an existing screen play based on Chainmail, the original concept. Rumors abound that with the success of LoTR and the Hobbit that the execs are looking to spend big bucks on the movie and are shopping for high dollar director and actors.
Its always so hard to put forward a movie where there is no central character, where a team of people, work together. Especially a rogue, fighter, mage and priest. The Avengers had a notable success but only after showcasing all their heroes in their own movies, making audiences comfortable with the team coming together. The Hobbits of course have a huge mythology behind their franchise, one that became well known to the audience through LoTR which isn't in fact a group of people adventuring, but more about Frodo and Aragorn and their journey to the destruction of Sauran.
This will be interesting. Deadline.

The third D&D movie (The Book Of Vile Darkness) was surprisingly good, so I'm kinda optimistic for this franchise at the moment.
