Only in Open Country

Moss grows on the north side of trees in the Northern Hemisphere...but only in open country. In particularly dense areas of vegetation the moss grows all around the bole of the tree. Generally moss grows in moist, shady areas, away from the sun.

But you can move the moss from the north side of a tree to the south side with a quick shove, thus throwing off adventurers. I saw it on Scooby-Doo.
