The source of much of our rune lore comes from the Poetic Edda. Here is one of the few stanza we have in tact that gives us mention of "gladness runes"
- "Beer I bring thee, tree of battle,
- Mingled of strength and mighty fame;
- Charms it holds and healing signs,
- Spells full good, and gladness-runes."
The gladness runes are thought to be some type of charm used to bring happiness and stave off that mind-numbing cloudy, dark winterness the Vikings lived in.
I'm not so sure I agree. Sounds like the whole stanza is about beer . . .here's a rune master coming with the magic of "gladness runes":
