Taken 2

I had a chance to slip out and have a look see at Taken 2 last night. For those who may have missed it Taken relates the tale of an ex-CIA agent, Bryan Mills, played by Liam Neeson, tracking down his daughter who has been kidnapped by Albanian sex-slave traders. He tears Paris apart in a ruthless . . . and I mean ruthless . . . campaign to kill these people and find his daughter. At one point he shoots one dude in the back as he's rounding some stairs is only a taste; he shoots them, stabs them, runs them over, fries one of them and so on. Great heart stopping action packed movie.

This piece picks up some time after the first movie. The family of the killed Albanians are coming for revenge. They pick up his trail in Istanbul where he is working on a security job for a local. His family has just joined him. That's when the action begins.

Much as with the first movie, once Taken 2, starts rolling it doesn't stop, literally. I think there is one few minute break in the action as it hammers home body after ground thumping body.

Its not as emotionally driven as the first flick, what with his daughter being sold into the underworld of sexual slavery, but it delivers. The story is right there, believable in its execution and the characters don't change at all, which is nice. No political messages (Lethal Weapon 2) were sent our way, nor environmental or religious or anything else, it was pure ass, you have killed my family you must die, you have kidnapped my family you must die.

As a side note, Neeson makes a great action star.  I could see that in Gangs of New York and The Grey. He holds the screen.

Let the brawl begin.

Troll Thumb up! Check it out!

I'm a big fan of the first one, but haven't gotten round to the sequel yet. Might be one to pick up as a bargain DVD at some point. I remember being not too thrilled by the concept of this one after the first trailer. using revenge as a plot hook is fine, but you have to wonder about it as a motivator some times. http://shortymonster.co.uk/?p=61
