Feudalism is a very interesting system of governance. It involves both vassals and Lords swearing oaths of allegiance; breaking oath with your Lord or with your vassal had severe repercussions. Foremost it lost you title to your land, but that was a matter of strength. But an equally important step in the chain of command was it absolved all those who swore oaths of fealty to that vassal as well, which meant of course that those underneath them could easily rebel . . . assuming they had the strength. It was an amazingly resilient system all things considered.
