Shortsightedness

I'm not sure that's how one spell's that word, but I read a statement by ComicsPro this morning that rather alarmed me. In response to Amazon's acquisition of Comixology last week the retailer organization had this to say:

"There's always a concern when a huge corporation that shows little need to turn a profit tries to convert a niche market into a commodity. Fortunately there is a tactile element to comics that no deep-discounting web entity will ever be able to replicate. So as long as there continues to be fans for the real thing, there will be comics and comic book stores."

I'm not certain I would bank on that market be insulated. The way digital content is these days and they way younger people receive their entertainment is changing constantly. The 3 big networks are beginning to figure that out. Content doesn't have to be one liner crap like twitter, but getting up and going to a store to enjoy the tactile is a foreign concept to many of them . . . much like going to the butcher shop is a foreign concept to most of us. You used to pick out your meat, as it hung on the rack, not so much anymore.

Seller beware . . . .
