Return of Torg

Back in the day we didn't play many RPGs. Dungeons and Dragons of course, GAMA World...that was about it that we can think of, except for TORG. We didn't play it much, but when we did it was a blast. Put out by West End Games back in the long ago days, it is now being revived by the German Distributor Ulysses Spiele. 

Basically you play a knight defending Earth against an invasion of alien over lords who have altered reality on earth. You have pretty cool powers (or can have them) and can a play a variety of different characters. Kind of future mysticism thing.

They've brought on Greg Gordon, one of the original TORG designers, which is pretty cool.

Photos of things Past

One of the things I regret is the lack of photos from TLG in the early days. There are probably 5-6 from our first Gencon. We got a little better at taking them, but most were done from 2001-03 on Todd's phone, which of course was stolen in Vegas at the Gama Trade Show.

We picked up the pace a little about 2010, but never kept them in order, so crap is everywhere. About 12 I started compiling them in folders on Facebook, but when Facebook killed the Troll Lord last year I lost the order...the photos I still have, but the organization is a mess.

Its only in the last few years that we've hammered these things out. Take them, put them in folders and what not.

Word of the Day -- Shekel

Shekel is any of several ancient units of weight or of currency.

Initially, it may have referred to a weight of barley. This shekel was about 180 grains.

The Hebrew word shekel is based on the verbal root for "weighing" (sh.q.l), cognate to the Akkadian šiqlu or siqlu, a unit of weight equivalent to the Sumerian gin2. Use of the word was first attested in c. 2150 BC during the Akkadian Empire under the reign of Naram-Sin, and later in c. 1700 BC in the Code of Hammurabi. The sh.q.l root is found in the Hebrew words for "to weigh" (shaqal), "weight" (mishqal) and "consideration" (shiqqul), and is related to the t.q.l root in Aramaic and the th.q.l root in Arabic, such as in the Arabic word for "heavy", thaqil. The famous writing on the wall in the Biblical Book of Daniel includes a cryptic use of the word in Aramaic: "Mene, mene, teqel, u-farsin". The word "shekel" came in to the English language via the Hebrew Bible, where it is first used in the Book of Genesis.

Gencon Bound

We are slowly wedging Gencon preparations into our CKG packing and shipping. We have a new canvas shell for the truck to install, lots of boxes to actually pack and get ready to roll out, the financial mess to get in order, banners are made and new racks are ordered so that good, but I'm guessing lots of stuff that I'll remember when I get to the show.

I did get a new Yeti cooler so I can have, I mean, the crew can have, cold Dr. Pepper in the booth. It was expensive but the Troll must have his cold drinks.

We are in Booth 1503 this year, up toward the front and next to Geek and Sundry and Green Ronin as well as Steve Jackson Games.
