The Viking took great pride in their drinking horns, even to the point of making them out of thin sheets of golden plates. They used them in social life, as status symbols, carried them on their belts and on to the afterlife. They were used prevalently until the church banned them in the 11th century, connecting the dots with pagan rituals.
