Gates Beneath the Ocean

Far below the clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico lies a broad lake. The water there is still, calm and possessed of a murk not often seen. The water's above roll across it in their own frenzied tumult but the lake stands still, indifferent the Gulf's exertions; the Gulf waters lap the shores as well, but they are unmoving.

And within lies death. A wall of life, in the guise of muscles, rise up against the lake's shores but they cannot breach it, such is the horror that lies within those waters.

The Brine Sea, a world beneath the world of water. But it is more than a wall of dark death . . .

These are the gates to those realms beyond our imagining, where the dark is stained, where unklar dwells, lurking, waiting. Beyond the Brine Sea dark things sleep.

post script: or this lake is created by areas of extreme salt concentration.
