Indeed! Researchers (I'm not sure who these 'researchers' but I'm pretty sure they know what they are doing) found small spherical fossils that appear to be some type of embryo of some animal or the other. They date from the Cambrain Period/Epoch of about 450 million years ago. Some of the embryos have small polygon patterns etched into them . . . not sure if embryos normally have polygon patterns on them, but it would explain my predilection for hex maps.
