Movie Trailer

Liam Neeson brings to life one of my favorite characters in fiction, Matt Scudder.  Based on Lawrence Block's successful series based in New York City, the book was fantastic, a gritty twist to the detective genre.  As with most movie adaptations, we will have to see how closely it sticks to the storyline of the book(s).  It looks pretty cool, and I'm willing to shell out of a few bucks to see this one when it comes out.

All that Matters?

Scientists behind the $2 billion Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer experiment reported new data pointing toward the potential detection of dark matter particles on Thursday. The AMS experiment is bolted onto the exterior of the International Space Station, and has been collecting cosmic-ray data since 2011. Researchers led by MIT physicist Sam Ting are watching for telltale patterns in the shifting balance between electrons and positrons, their antimatter equivalent, at higher and higher energies.

Word of the Day -- Swamp

A swamp is a wetland that is forested. Many swamps occur along large rivers where they are critically dependent upon natural water level fluctuations. Other swamps occur on the shores of large lakes. Some swamps have hammocks, or dry-land protrusions, covered by aquatic vegetation, or vegetation that tolerates periodic inundation. The two main types of swamp are "true" or swamp forests and "transitional" or shrub swamps. In the boreal regions of Canada, the word swamp is colloquially used for what is more correctly termed a bog or muskeg. The water of a swamp may be fresh water, brackish water or seawater. Some of the world's largest swamps are found along major rivers such as the Amazon, the Mississippi, and the Congo.


Conservationists have worked hard to preserve swamps such as those in northwest Indiana in the United States Midwest that have been preserved as part of the Indiana Dunes.

God of Stone

In the early days many creatures followed the works of the All Father, invisible armies living in his shadows, fearful yet adoring, curious yet arrogant in their own power. Burol was one such powerful spirit; he suffered not the arrogance of his fellows, but he listened to the All Father and watched his labors. He understood little of his language or the act of creation, excepting the nature of stone and rock. Whenever the All Father worked in stone, Burol could see it and grasped it readily. Burol harbored the knowledge and learned to master the stone. In time, the All Father set aside his labors upon the fault and moved to other tasks, and the folk scattered far and wide. Burol remained, however, and he gathered a great host of the taonu muento, the giants, about him and taught them what he know. He gave them the "gift of stone" and ever after they worshipped him as a god.

Burol has no shape that is humanoid, but can assume that of any he desires. He normally occupies rock, shaping it as he needs. He dwells in the far northern mountains of the Muenberg. There upon a flat-topped mountain he dwells, shaping the rock into a small lake surrounded by a wall, with a beach of pebbles and a long stone table upon it. Here he entertains supplicants.

UFO Files

Now this is interesting. A military combat instructor (personal combat) has reported a UFO sighting in North Carolina. He claims to have video . . . well that's not a claim, he HAS video . . . of the UFO. He describes it as a triangular shaped craft, flying silently but that he was able to "see through" the UFO.

Indeed when you look at the video it creates an interesting view of being invisible, other than the flashing lights. He reports that as he was looking at the UFO he could see stars "through" it. Furthermore he could not see it with the naked eye, only his night vision goggles.

The triangular pattern of the lights was unfamiliar as well.

All that said he doesn't feel it was an alien craft, but rather some advanced military craft with a cloaking device. in all a very interesting and credible report. .

Richard III Would Kick Your Teeth In

The more I read about this guy the more I like him. I know little (at the moment) about his reign, wether he was a good king or poor king, but it does seem as if he was one tough son of a gun.

To catch you up on the news . . . in case you haven't been following . . . back in the 1600 Henry VIII ordered all the monasteries in England seized. Their property was despoiled and sold. It so happens that Richard III was buried at one of these monasteries. Fast forward 400 years or such to 2012 and archeologists and historians correctly located the monastery that legend had Richard buried at. They begin poking around and find a body in a tomb under a parking lot which they identify as the late Richard III who died at Bosworth Field.

What happened at Bosworth? In short Richard III led an army of some 8000 men against Henry Tudor's 5000. But before the battle began several of Richard's Lord rebelled, joined the enemy and turned the tide against him. Richard, apparently a man of action, decided to end the fracas before he was utterly defeated and led his knights in a gallant charge to destroy Henry.

They broke through his ranks, cut all the way too him and even slew his standard bearer before they number played against them. Richard was cut off from his men by a large press of knights and foot soldiers. His horse is mired in the ground. He leaps off and continues fighting, or continues fighting from the horse, but is struck so hard in the head that it knocks his helmet off, or breaks it one. Then the fight becomes brutal...3 shaving blows cut off parts of his skull, a dagger to the cheek and a slice on the chin...but it seems Richard is still fighting because someone strikes him in the back of the head, several times, cleaving open his skull.

9 head wounds, 2 wounds to the back and buttocks.

Richard III would kick your teeth in.
