The Elves of Fontenouq

The lands of Fontenouq are wild, inhospitable places, consisting of rocky outcrops atop steep hills, whose slopes follow wild descents into ever darkening woods. In the valleys the trees and bramble grow close. They are fed by many small streams, pools and ponds. There are no roads here, only trails, and these seem to crisscross the country in no particular pattern. A plentiful amount of game is available for the wary hunter, but there are many predators, both magical and mundane.

The spired castles of the Fontenouq Elves dot the countryside. Though some went to great lengths to hide their towers in the dark deeps, others were content to build them heedless of who saw them. These high thin towers rise from forested hills or valleys like singular moments. They are out of place, these otherworldly towers, but even so seem to belong with the countryside. Often the trails leading to these forested palaces are difficult, if not impossible, to find and many a would be visitor has entered the forests never to return.

Zombieland 2

At last! The quest for the twinkies continues. Zombieland 2 is in pre-production as they hire a screen writer and director to get this long beleaguered project off the ground. David Callaham, writer from Expendables and Godzilla, has been tasked with the job of bringing Zombieland back to the big screen.

If you missed the first one, you should really go check it out, its one of the best zombie movies out there with a nice mix of humor and horror and romance, all bundled into one rules driven zombie landscaped apocalypse.

But final or not, the first two were sweet music, this one will be too, no doubt.

For years I've struggled with carrying crap from car to house, house to car, room to room and other rooms to rooms or where ever I'm going. Why? Because I'm always carting around a Dr. Pepper. Its always in my hand, like Linus's security blanket. I have a Dr. Pepper. Which means I've only one free hand to carry crap in.

Word of the Day -- Tachyon

A tachyon or tachyonic particle is a hypothetical particle that always moves faster than light. The word comes from the Greek: ταχύς or tachys, meaning "swift, quick, fast, rapid", and was coined in 1967 by Gerald Feinberg. The complementary particle types are called luxon (always moving at the speed of light) and bradyon (always moving slower than light), which both exist. The possibility of particles moving faster than light was first proposed by Bilaniuk, Deshpande, and George Sudarshan in 1962 although the term they used for it was "meta-particle".

Most physicists think that faster-than-light particles cannot exist because they are not consistent with the known laws of physics. If such particles did exist, they could be used to build a tachyonic antitelephone and send signals faster than light, which (according to special relativity) would lead to violations of causality. Potentially consistent theories that allow faster-than-light particles include those that break Lorentz invariance, the symmetry underlying special relativity, so that the speed of light is not a barrier.

Skirting the Waves

A discovery of an ancient canoe (though 1400 doesn't seem ancient for some reason) in New Zealand surprised archeologists with its sophistication. When New Zealand was first visited by Europeans a few centuries later the indigenous peoples used canoes that were hallowed out of single trees. But this  canoe was large, some 20 feet, showed signs of continual repair, but far more interesting it had ribs and was assembled from several parts.

That means of course that the islanders could build boats, not just cut a tree down and hollow it out (and just think for a moment how insanely hard that would be to do with stone tools), but actually build a boat out of many parts.

This proves once again that our ancestors were smarter than we give them credit for, the problem solved, just like we do.
