Viking ring castles
When I first read about these ring castle in denmark, my opinion of the Vikings changed. This was years ago during a medieval history class. It was my first real reading on the Vikings and my opinion of them as a sorta chaotic mess of raiders and petty landowners and what not changed. it was not all the reading that changed my opinion but the ring fortress.
Highly organized, defensible and utilitarian. Awesome.
