Comic News
Comics have continued their slide, ending out 1Q down about 5% from the previous year. Sale slowed due to weather (which was horrific in the north and north east, hell in the south for that reason as we don't have the equipment to deal with snow and ice), but other factors played into the decline as well. Batman, Superman and Xman held the top spots but there were no new big releases in 1Q by either of the two big boys, DC and Marvel.

Word of the Day -- Aglet
An aglet (or aiglet) is a small plastic or metal sheath typically used on each end of a shoelace, cord, or drawstring.
An aglet keeps the fibers of the lace or cord from unraveling; its
firmness and narrow profile make it easier to hold and easier to feed
through the eyelets, lugs, or other lacing guides.
The word aglet (or aiglet) comes from Old French aguillette (or aiguillette), which is the diminutive of aguille (or aiguille), meaning needle. This in turn comes from acus, Latin for needle. An aglet is like a small needle at the end of a cord.
This is a great trivia question, and one that stumps a lot of people. So the next time you are at a dinner party, point to someone's shoes and say: "Nice aglets!"

Star Wars VII Begins Shooting
It would seem that they have already started shooting on Star Wars VII. The screen play was recently finished, with JJ Abrams jumping in at the last to help out, and is all set. Most of the casting is complete as well. The movie itself is scheduled for release next December.
I'm anxious to see this. Star Wars has been a staple for many many years now and is part of the lexicon and culture. I'm a little curious how they are going to fit all the cast members into the story. Its one of the things I thought the Star Trek reboot was weak on. Putting Nimoy in as time traveling Spock just crowded the story with nostalgia (don't get me wrong I'm a HUGE fan of the trio…bones, kirk and spock…) and made the new movie instantly remind me of the old and spend half the movie thinking about the original series.
Hopefully we won't have simple cameos to get the juices flowing. No need for that. Star Wars, like Star Trek, transcends the characters that pass through its story.

Hawking
This is pretty cool, that hawks dwindles in size, time and time again…well I guess he doesn't actually…she rather…dwindle in size, but becomes smaller…makes herself smaller…

Cow's To Lose Last Drink
Seems that for years…unbeknownst to me at least…breweries have been selling their left over grain to the cattle industry as live stock feed.
They take the barley, wheat and whatever, boil it, mash it, mix it in a pot and do all the magic that they do to make beer. They left over grains, hundreds of millions of tons of it, is sold to farmers all over the country. They, in their turn, feed it to the cattle, who enjoy a last drink or two before continuing on their journey to the table.
Well drink the barley no more! The FDA has passed a regulation that all such grains will have to be cleaned, and packaged and etc etc before the cows can get it to eat . . . you know because eating grass off the ground is so sanitary. The costs will likely be prohibitive and the spent grains dumped?
Who loses? The COWS! No more grains steeped in beer and the last drunk cow is now a thing of the past.

Dave Trampier Tribute
As you all know by now Dave Trampier passed away this past weekend. He was a fantastic artist, able to cast a net both humorous and witty (no easy feat by any means). His art is iconic of an entire era.
