The Last Plantagenet

King Henry II was the first of the Plantagenet Kings and he assumed the throne of England in 1154, becoming Duke of Normandy. These added to his titles of Count of Anjou and Maine. He later married to become Duke of Aquitaine. He reigned for the better part of two decades and fathered a wellspring of very talented children, two of which became Kings after him, Richard the Lion Heart and John. Henry is accounted one of the greatest medieval monarchs as he created an empire to rival Charles the Great's and ruled it affectively until the last year of his life. His reign was a flower of medieval culture playing witness to the Great Queen Eleanor; the most renowned knight of all time, William Marshal and the French King Louis Philip, himself one of the greatest monarchs.

The long reign of the Plantagenets continued until the War of the Roses when the Tudors overthrew the last of Henry's offspring, Richard III, in 1485 at the battle of Bosworth. Richard's body was last accounted for, strapped over a horse and being cut and sliced by various Tudor dogs. He remains were taken to a nearby monastery and interred without pomp or circumstance.

But it has been recovered. Found beneath a parking lot in Leicester his bones were unearthed and have now been positively identified. 

Its time to give the man his just deserts and bury him with all royal ceremony!! (whatever that might entail as his ancestor Henry II is actually buried in France).
