Man's Best, Wait, Scratch That...Baboons...

Those aren't men domesticating those dogs . . .

This video is hard to watch for any dog lover. Hearing the puppies insane squealing and howling pulls at some primeval part of us. For countless thousands of years (and having seen this, its probably hundreds of thousands) the dog has trotted at our side; our indefatigable companion in our long journey.    They have watched the dark when we could not see, hounded our prey to the cook fire, watched over our young, fought at our side against giant cats of the savanna as well as the monstrous bears of the mountains. The dog has been our closest ally in the long journey to interstellar conquest....er, I mean toward peace and love.

But we are not alone . . . .

This is an interesting video in that it probably throws back when our upright talking selves actually domesticated horses, dogs and even cattle and those oh-so-scrumptous pigs. If baboons can do this, why not early naked man? 15-2000 years? It seems unlikely. Dogs have been following our camps for longer than that would be a fair guess.
