At Trail's End

The trail, blue with ice and snow, yields little to your machinations. At times the drifts cover the trail entirely and the snow soaks into your wet boots. Your feet are numb with cold, your breath stings and hangs in front of you. Even your eyes feel the lash of it. But at last the forest gives way . . .
