Lawless

Here's a quick and dirty movie review for the movie Lawless. I've been looking forward to this movie for some time, meant to catch it on the big screen, but for whatever reason managed to miss it. But I plopped back and watched it this weekend.  It chronicles the moonshine business as run by three brothers in rural Virginia…in the "wettest county," Franklin County, where apparently everyone was in the distillery business.

This is a great film. A nice period piece that throws us back into the wilds of Virginia in the 1930s. It captures the old time religion of what life was like before, well, before all this. The script is good and full of surprises. The three brothers are different, believable characters who don't do the expected. Lots of action, a little romance, great dialogue and really cool cars. And Gary Oldman does not play a crazy person!

My only two complaints: the villain is a bit predictable and typecast (you've seen him done a number of times now) and the sound was off so that some of the quiet talk is hard to hear . . . or I'm hard of hearing.

Great film. Check it out.  Lawless

Not to be confused with this Lawless . . . .
