The Hrimpursar

From the strong arms of Ymir came the first giants. From their coupling came the host of the hrimpursar, the frost giants. These populated Neflheimr, the land of giants. The frost giants tormented the gods and waged war upon them for long centuries. They bedded and were bedded by gods. They played them false, and the gods returned the coin. In the end the frost giants rallied around Loki to fight the gods upon the fields of Ragnorok.

In Aihrde the frost giants stalked the early pages of the annals of the dwarves, kinsmen in blood, these giants wandered far to settle in the high mountains and frozen norths. But the Winter Dark gave them play the whole world over. They come on the cusp of storms, riding the blizzards of snow to hunt creatures of all stripes. Thus men say "Its a giant's snow tonight" in the face of large storms.

They ride upon iron bound sleds, pulled by large bovines, or yeti that lope like great apes. The giants adorn themselves in ornately carved breast plates and carry doubled headed axes, crowbills, and spike maces into battle. They laugh loud, drink to abundance and relish killing. They have no fear of death, laughing in the face of all battle. When their power is spent they rise again to join Erling at his board where they drink and fight for all time.

Off on a tangent, the final fight in House of Flying Daggers always makes me think of Frazette's "Ice Giants."

That was a very good movie. Hadn't really placed the two together, but now that you mention it . . .

Another movie to watch that is in the same genre is War of Arrows. Check that sucker out. Very good.
