Austro-Hungarian Empire

Born from the ashes of the Holy Roman Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire sprawled across central Europe encompassing Austria, pieces of Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Transylvania, Bosnia, Hervzgovina and a good chunk of modern day Poland. This multi-national Empire was rather liberal in its treatment of its nationalities and astonished most military and political analysts by its ability to keep a very large (though not quiet as skilled) army in the field for over 4 years.
