Roping Comets

I'm pretty sure we have just as much water on planet earth as we did 4 billion years ago. If not, its close and we are no where near pushing this planet to the Arakis level of desert planet.

This article babbles on about water scarcity and how 11 billion humans..where we are headed I think...will have to do without. Actually there is plenty of water, what they are talking about, is getting it to the people where the people live. We consume a great deal of water and have tapped the natural aquifers that exist under the ground, and these take hundreds if not thousands of years to replenish.

But at the end of the day, if we can manage to pump billions of gallons of oil around the planet, I think we can pump billions of gallons of water around the planet...from the oceans.

Be a lot cheaper than roping comets!

Of course if we did that, that would be some major cowboying!

I think you misunderstand the problem. You can go days without filling your car, but not even that long without water. Now compare how much water is per gallon vs. gasoline/oil per gallon. Water is significantly cheaper, for now. Now imagine a world where water rises in price to match what we pay for oil, especially if some of the things (massive infrastructure costs) you mentioned are used to move water to drought-stricken places. It is not a stretch considering the relative scarcity of potable water--which is what we are really talking about here. And we have not even touched on the disruptive mass migrations that are going to happen b/c of water scarcity.
