Word of the Day -- Cirque

This is one of those words you just don't think you run across that often, then you find out a little more about it and you realize it's everywhere.  For instance, I was listening to a song years and years ago by this Maine singer called Sonny Probe.  In the song, he's talking about cops being everywhere, and one thing he mentions is "there's cops in the glacial cirques".  I was intrigued. I had a vague idea what a cirque was, which according to merriam is: a deep steep-walled basin on a mountain usually forming the blunt end of a valley.  Then a few days after that song, I saw a commercial for cirque du soleil, which translated means circus of the sun.  So there you have the meaning of the word cirque, circus.  Or more precisely, arena.  So these valley that are formed are similar in shape to an arena, hence the name cirque.  Pretty cool stuff, if you ask me.  I love it when words just seem to have this life of their own that we have no idea of until we delve in there.
