Nice short read from the Economist today on the development of arrowheads in early man. It begins with a discussion of how early is early for homo sapiens, or rather when did we developed a distinct psychology; i.e. was it early on in our pre-history (200,000 years ago) or was it rather later when the species began to actually take off (70,000 years ago).
Ending on an interesting note about altruism, why would early man sacrifice his life for another (as so many people do today). It does not ask the next obvious question however, do any other species do this? Do we have circumstances of other mammals sacrificing their lives to save another? I suspect we do, momma bear and baby bear etc etc (I'm pretty sure Yogi would give up his life to save booboo).
Economist.
